Prosthetic Dentistry
Prosthetic dentistry is a branch of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth. The loss of teeth can occur for various reasons such as tooth decay, trauma, diseases of the tissues surrounding the tooth, incorrect position of the teeth, and occlusion issues. When traditional fillings are no longer enough, tooth replacement is necessary.
Three main types of dentures are used in dental prosthetics:
- Fixed prostheses, such as partial crowns, crowns, and bridges, which are “glued” to the remaining teeth. They provide excellent aesthetics and increase chewing efficiency.
- Removable partial dentures, which are intended for patients who have lost teeth in the upper or lower arch of the jaw. They provide good aesthetics, but have lower stability and can lead to faster jawbone deterioration.
- Removable full dentures, which are designed for patients who have lost all their teeth. They can also be fixed on implants to provide added stability.
It’s worth noting that the choice of the type of prosthetic treatment at City Clinic Dental depends on the patient’s individual situation, the number and position of the missing teeth, the state of the remaining teeth and the patient’s preference and budget. A professional consultation with a dentist or a prosthodontist at City Clinic Dental will help to determine the best treatment option for you.
